Habitat for Humanity of Greenville

Joi Henry and her daughter, Jaslynn are so excited to have their own home!  Joi grew up in Nicholtown with her mom, dad, and two sisters in a small home. Things in the home were chaotic at times, but overall, the sisters knew they  were loved.

Upon graduating, she worked as a CNA until her daughter was born. Once she became a mother she wanted a different job, something better for her family. She took a job working at Global  Lending Services and hopes the stability of her new  home will help her to move up within the company.

Joi learned about the Habitat program through her friend, Genelle, who is a Habitat homeowner and the  godmother of her daughter. She had thought about the program for many years, but it was when her friend,  Jamie (also a Habitat Homeowner), encouraged her to  apply that she finally did.

Joi and Jaslynn have been living with Joi’s sister and son since Jaslynn was born. Though they are grateful for this, they are ready to have their own space. Living with family can be challenging and Joi is looking forward to having her own space and her own rules to  live by.

When asked about how the Habitat program has been, Joi said it has been challenging in ways she didn’t expect. But because she knows what the stability of a home means, it is worth it, and she will do it! She said through the classes and sweat equity on the build site  she is learning information she can use for the rest of  her life, especially learning about budgeting.

To Joi, the word home means somewhere safe, comfortable, and peaceful. Habitat has given her an opportunity she didn’t think she’d ever have. Her advice to others thinking about applying is, “stay on it!  Keep asking, make sure you keep with it to get your spot! Start making the changes you need to make as soon as you apply. Start budgeting, get prepared, and be proactive.”

And we agree with her advice! Way to be proactive and make a better future for your family! Welcome Home,  Joi and Jaslynn!
