Homeownership Program Eligibility

If you are interested in applying and want to know whether you might be a good fit for the program, review the steps below.

Step One: Review the Builds

Review our current builds and see if the neighborhood and homes might be right for you.

Step Two: Eligibility Criteria

Please review the program qualifications. To be eligible for the Homeownership program, applicants must have a housing need and actively participate in the Habitat program. They must have lived and/or worked in Greenville or Laurens County for at least one year, be US citizens or permanent residents, and will have the ability to afford a Habitat mortgage.

Financial Requirements

Earn a minimum gross income of $54,000;
Earn less than 80% of the Area Median Income based on your household size*;
Have been employed for a minimum of one year in current job or have two years of verifiable income that is projected to continue;
Have an absence of judgements/liens.

* To purchase a Habitat home, applicants must be under 80% of the Area Median Income. The chart below shows the maximum 2025 income limits based on household size:

1-person household: $54,488
2-person household: $62,272
3-person household: $70,056
4-person household: $77,840
5-person household: $84,067

General Requirements

Must be currently living and/or working in Greenville or Laurens counties and have been for at least the last year;
Must be a US citizen or permanent resident;
Cannot be a registered sex offender;
Must be willing to partner with Habitat and commit to completing sweat equity and education hours;
Any prior bankruptcy must have been discharged for at least 2 years;
Have not owned a home in the last three years.

Step Three: Eligibility Form

Once you submit your Program Eligibility Form, you will receive an email either inviting you to apply for the program or providing reasons why you do not qualify. Please allow a few weeks to hear from us.

Step Four: Invitation to Apply

If you meet the requirements in the Program Eligibility Form, you will:

Receive an invitation to apply to the Habitat Homeownership Program via email.
Complete the application and submit that along with the requested documents.
Have your application reviewed by our team to verify income and other criteria.
Receive a letter from us with the next steps!
