Employee Spotlight: Kelly Mitchell – Capturing Community Through Creativity

When Kelly Mitchell joined Habitat for Humanity of Greenville in September 2024, she brought more than just experience; she brought energy, creativity, and a photographer’s eye for detail. From day one, Kelly hit the ground running, helping lead major events and supporting Habitat GVL through a season of transition. Her colleagues describe her as a “hard worker, a team player, and someone who uses her many talents to make Habitat stronger every day.”

Originally from Minnesota, Kelly graduated from South Dakota State University in 2021 with a degree in Public Relations. That same year, she launched her own photography business, a passion that continues to thrive alongside her professional work.

Her nonprofit journey began at McCrory Gardens, a botanical garden in South Dakota, where she led marketing efforts and organized their signature holiday fundraiser, Garden Glow. After several years in South Dakota, Kelly decided to chase warmer weather and moved to Greenville in 2023. Drawn by the city’s vibrant culture and proximity to both mountains and beaches, she quickly fell in love with the Upstate. Before joining Habitat, Kelly worked on the events team at the Peace Center, honing her skills in planning and community engagement.

Today, as a Development Associate, Kelly plays a vital role in fundraising and relationship-building. Her peers praise her willingness to collaborate across departments and her ability to bring creativity to every project. Whether she’s planning a major event or brainstorming new ideas, Kelly’s dedication and positive energy make her an invaluable part of the team.

Outside of work, Kelly’s creativity continues to flourish. She runs her photography business in her free time and enjoys swing dancing, exploring local festivals and coffee shops, and spending time with friends. Her love for community and connection is evident both in her professional work and personal life.

Kelly’s journey, from the snowy plains of Minnesota and South Dakota to the vibrant Upstate of South Carolina, reflects her adventurous spirit and commitment to making a difference. Through her work at Habitat and her photography, she continues to capture the beauty of community: one frame at a time.
