Prospective homeowners must meet employment and income requirements.

Families who feel they may qualify are encouraged to complete the homeownership qualification form. Below is an overview of the process with major milestones noted. For families who qualify, approximately 12-18 months is usually the minimum to complete the requirements for a Habitat home. Depending on individual circumstances, additional time may be needed.

Our pre-application period is now closed. Please click here to receive updates on future application cycles.

If you qualify for the homeownership program, you will be asked to provide proof of residency and income

After the qualification form has been reviewed and your proof of residency and income are received, you will be invited to an orientation where further requirements and next steps will be discussed.

A home visit will be conducted by Habitat’s Family Selection Team to determine your need for housing. Their recommendation and the file of each approved family will be presented for approval by the Greenville’s Board of Directors.

If approved for the program, you will begin completion of 200 “sweat equity” volunteer hours and participation in 25 hours of classes in our homeowner preparation program. Some of these can be completed online.

After meeting a minimum of 75 hours of sweat equity, you will be eligible to be matched with a sponsor and build site, and construction on your home will begin.

Upon completion of all sweat equity hours and payment of the homeowner portion of closing costs, you become a proud Habitat homeowner, move into your home, and begin paying your mortgage.

You will participate in the dedication ceremony held when your home is completed.
